Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICH), as defined by UNESCO, refers to the living expressions, knowledge, and skills that communities, groups, and individuals recognize as part of their cultural identity. This includes oral traditions, performing arts, rituals and festivals, traditional craftsmanship, and knowledge about nature and the universe.
Digital technologies are increasingly being used to document, share, and reinterpret intangible heritage: from immersive installations and web-based storytelling to data visualization and digital archives.
ICH Atlas was created to make sense of these transformations, mapping practices, identifying emerging skills, and offering tools for supporting meaningful digital approaches in the intangible heritage sector.
The ICH Atlas platform was developed within the framework of the research project “TRAMA: Cultural Transformations – Intangible Heritage and New Digital-Driven Professional Skills” * (2024-2025).
TRAMA is the result of a partnership combines academic research with advanced data-driven methodologies to address the challenges and opportunities related to intangible cultural heritage valorization in the digital era.
The Department of Design is the main Italian center for scientific research in the field of design, rooted in the Italian design culture and oriented to explore new disciplinary frontiers.
